Microsoft is preparing a Surface tablet with a foldable screen. This device is rumored to be running an Android application and launched in 2020.

This information was disclosed by an analyst at the IHS Markit research company, Jeff Lin. Lin revealed that he expects Microsoft to debut its Surface tablet with a double 9-inch screen featuring a 4: 3 aspect ratio.

Perhaps more interesting, Lin also claims Microsoft's next-generation Windows operating system, Windows Core OS, will be able to run Android applications. The new Surface also seems to be supporting Apple's iCloud service on Windows 10.

The device is also reported to be adopting Lakefield's Intel 10nm on-a-chip (SOC) system. Lin believes dual screen surfaces can arrive in the first quarter of 2020, or in the first half of 2020.

Given the problem that the folding screen has displayed for Samsung, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft intends to implement a dynamic dual display in folding tablet design.

In addition, it is unclear how Microsoft plans to host the Android App Store itself apart from the Google Play store, and how it will align with the existing Universal Windows Platform company, which provides developers with a common application platform on every device running Windows 10.

Earlier this year reports began to emerge that Microsoft plans to launch a two-screen mobile device, codenamed "Centaurus." The company even teased double-screen surface hardware in an all-hand show for its device team earlier this month.
