Xiaomi's founder and CEO, Lei Jun, has announced it will no longer launch new versions of Mi Max and Mi Note smartphones this year. Lei also revealed the distribution of the Xiaomi cellphone series.
Lei said that his side would now focus on the Xiaomi and Redmi brands, which below consisted of several models. Here's Lei's full explanation which he wrote on Weibo social media.
"We always emphasize to make a good product that 'moves people and is priced well'. The mobile product line is complete, divided into two: Xiaomi and Redmi," Lei wrote
"Xiaomi Brand: Technology exploration, high end, extreme experience and focus on new retail markets. There are 1. Xiaomi digital series, Xiaomi 9 / Xiaomi 9SE 2. Xiaomi Mix series, super artsy flagship business 3. New CC series, trendy mobile phones for young people around the world. There are no plans for the new Max and Note this year, "Lei said.
"Redmi Brand - High quality, very cost effective, focused on the e-commerce market. In total there are six product lines: Redmi 7A, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi K20 / K20 Pro," concluded Lei.
It is clear that the Mi Max and Mi Note series have no new versions this year, with the latest models coming out being the Mi Max 3 and Mi Note 3. Both series seem to be considered not too important.
Xiaomi also focuses on its own brand and the Redmi line, which consists of several models. As Lei said some time ago, the Xiaomi series is now aimed at more upmarket markets, not as cheap as in the past.
For the middle class market, the Redmi brand is a mainstay with a variety of products already poured. The K20 and K20 Pro flagship also have the possibility that the price tag will not be very expensive.
