Google has just released a powerful feature which is earthquake detection for Android. This powerful feature will send notifications or notifications to Android users in the event of an earthquake in the surrounding area. How does it work ?
We never know when an earthquake occurs. At least every day there are earthquakes in all parts of the world. With the availability of fast and accurate information related to the earthquake that occurred, it could help the lives of millions of people via Android.
In collaboration with various parties, Google added a system on Android to detect earthquakes. The technology used is based on ShakeAlert to provide seismometer data information to alert Android users about earthquakes.
That way they can take advantage of the precious seconds to take cover and save themselves from an earthquake. For the first test, Google did it in California and only available in the region.
Apart from utilizing ShakeAlert technology, the accelerometer sensor on Android also functions as earthquake detection. If there is a potential for an earthquake in an area, the accelerometer sensor on Android will send its data to Google's earthquake detection server.
Not only your Android phone, other users in the area will also send earthquake-related data or information to Google servers. Thus the supporting information will be more accurate to conclude whether an earthquake has occurred.
As a result, Android will get a notification in the form of an earthquake complete with information, including the source of the earthquake and the magnitude of the vibration.
Not only that, Android users will also get rescue steps when an earthquake occurs. Like taking cover under a table to get out of the room.
Quoting from the official Google blog, working with natural disaster experts Dr. Richard Allen, Dr. Qingkai Kong, and Dr. Lucy Jones they will present this earthquake detection feature around the world.
For now, unfortunately it is only limited to the territory of California, United States.
However, this step by Google is very helpful. With earthquake detection on Android, millions of people who are now inseparable can be more vigilant.
