Lockdown, social distancing, physical distancing, and work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic increased the use of video call or video conference services.
From work meetings, interacting with friends to communicating with family, making video conferencing applications flooded with users. The large capacity of the number of video call participants has become one of the advantages of video conferencing applications, so it is in great demand.
Seeing this, WhatsApp which is currently only able to accommodate a maximum of 4 participants in one video call does not seem to want to lose.
They are reportedly preparing an update for the video call feature or often called video call (VC) which later will be able to accommodate more than 4 participants.
This can be seen from the WhatsApp beta update recently. According to WABetaInfo, the update with version 2.2.128 provides instructions on improving the WhatsApp video call feature.
In addition to increasing the number of video call participants, WhatsApp will also increase participants for regular audio calls. Where at this time group audio calls are also limited to four participants.
WhatsApp currently has more than 2 billion users worldwide, the addition of group audio and video call participants seems to be a breath of fresh air for users.
Especially with the existence of several cases of security and privacy from the video conference application that is currently booming, WhatsApp will be an alternative choice for group video calls.
But unfortunately, it is still unknown how many call participants will be applied by WhatsApp. Likewise for the time when the feature update will officially launch, until now there is no information that can be a benchmark.
