One of the communication services platforms based on WhatsApp online is rumored to be stopping its support for several operating system versions such as Android and iOS. That is, some phones with certain versions of Android and iOS will not be able to use the WhatsApp application.
The WhatsApp instant messaging application announces they no longer provide support for a number of older iOS operating systems on iPhone devices.
"The WhatsApp application for iPhone requires iOS 9 or newer. For iPhone iOS 8 and older, you can no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts," WhatsApp wrote on their official website.
IOS 8 users and older versions can only use WhatsApp until February 1, 2020, after that, they can no longer send messages via WhatsApp.
WhatsApp recommends users to use the latest version of iOS that can be installed on the iPhone so they can continue to use the instant messaging platform.
WhatsApp alludes to the tendency of users to "jailbreak", modify iOS so that certain applications or features can be installed. Although it does not explicitly prohibit "jailbreaking", WhatsApp does not explicitly support the action.
"We do not explicitly prohibit the use of jailbroken devices. However, modifications like this can affect the functionality of your device, and we cannot provide support for devices that use a modified iPhone operating system version," WhatsApp said.
While for the Android operating system, WhatsApp also no longer supports version 2.3.7 Gingerbread and older starting next year.
"For Android version 2.3.7 and earlier, you can no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts," WhatsApp said.
Android Gingerbread and earlier versions also only get access to WhatsApp until February 1, 2020.
