"We are continuing to investigate the issue related to the huge volume of new players connecting to Modern Warfare. Players that are in-game should be able to continue playing without interruption. We will continue to provide updates as quickly as we can," the Activision support message reads.

Another post covers problems being seen on the Xbox Platform, which adds: "We are seeing a small number of Xbox One X players experience crashes with Modern Warfare. We are already working on a fix. Thanks for your patience and feedback."

The Connection Error messages fans are seeing are popping up in the UK, United States and across Europe.

Gamers are also pointing out that it appears you need to be online to play the single-player campaign, which does not offer multiplayer options.

It's easy to guess that it has something to do with the surge of players trying to update and play the game.

It should also be noted that a new update is available to download and includes a lot of changes and tweaks from the earlier betas.

Thousands of reports are being shared on down detector sites, which track massive outages and service problems.

"Why do I need to connect to online services just to play campaign?" one user writes.

Another adds: "Guess they didn't prepare for this big of a launch... I mean its the best looking CoD (not just graphically) in years.

"So campaign only works in North America, I'm not gonna risk anything I want it to save."
