Google Photos is known as an application that is able to organize photos produced by Android users, automatically through the cloud.

This function has now been embedded by Google into a new application called the Go Gallery. Like Google Photos, Gallery Go is able to arrange various images into different categories, from selfies to pets. The difference is, Gallery Go doesn't need an internet connection.

The process of photo organization runs locally (offline) on user devices by utilizing machine learning technology. The photo categories will be added to the mobile gallery. Go Gallery also supports microSD memory cards, so photos from external storage media can also be adjusted automatically.

Google Launches the Go Gallery, the "Offline" Version of Photos

In addition to organizing photos, Go Gallery is also equipped with editing features, automatic tweaking, and several filters to change images according to taste.

"Go Gallery helps lay smartphone users to find, edit, and manage photos without the need for a high-speed internet connection or cloud backup," said Google Photos Product Manager, Ben Greenwood in a blog post.

Google designed the Go Gallery as a lightweight application, part of the "Go" series of applications that have been launched in recent years for low-spec phones (Android Go). Among them are YouTube Go, Google Go, and Google Maps Go. The Go Gallery installation file is also compact with a size of only about 10 megabytes

With Go Gallery and other Go applications, Google hopes that its services can reach millions of new smartphone users in developing countries.

Go Gallery is now available in the Google Play Store app store and can be downloaded by device users running Android 8.1 or newer.
